Former Chiefs Linebacker Misses Hall of Fame Shot
Feb. 5, 2005
Former Chiefs linebacker Derrick Thomas fell short of election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday.
The four players elected were quarterbacks Dan Marino, Steve Young and Benny Friedman and running back/coach Fritz Pollard.
Thomas made the cut from 15 players to 10, but did not receive the necessary votes for induction.
Thomas, who died in 2000 as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident, was one of 15 finalists for enshrinement and was in his first year of eligibility. Former University of Missouri and St. Louis Cardinals cornerback Roger Wehrli also was a finalist for the first time.
